Famciclovir Famvir® Pregnancy: B; Lactation: Unsafe Tabs: 125 mg 250 mg 500 mg |
Children: Safety and efficacy in children have not been established.
Adult: 125 mg PO every 12 hours to 500 mg PO every 8 hours.
Food: May be taken without regard to food.
Important side effects: Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, insomnia, fatigue, rash.
Reduce dose in renal disease: If usual dose is 500 mg PO every 8 hours and:
CrCl 40-59 mL/min, then use 500 mg PO every 12 hours CrCl 20-39 mL/min, then use 500 mg PO every 24 hours CrCl <20 mL/min, then use 250 mg PO every 48 hours
If usual dose is 125 mg every 12 hours and: CrCl 20-39 mL/min, then use 125 mg every 24 hours CrCl <20 mL/min, then use 125 mg every 48 hours
