Children ≥2 years: 10-20 mg/kg/day in one or two divided doses (max 500 mg/day).
125 mg/5 mL @ 10 mg/kg/day 5 kg (11 lb) = 2 mL Q24H 7.5 kg (16 lb) = 3 mL Q24H 10 kg (22 lb) = 4 mL Q24H 12.5 kg (28 lb) = 5 mL (1tsp) Q24H 15 kg (33 lb) = 6 mL Q24H 20 kg (44 lb) = 8 mL Q24H 25 kg (55 lb) = 10 mL (2tsp) Q24H or 250 mg tab/cap Q24H
Adult: 500 mg PO once or twice daily.
Food: Take with a fatty meal to improve absorption. Avoid alcohol.
Important side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, photosensitivity, rash, urticaria, confusion, granulocytopenia, dysgeusia, disulfiram-like reaction, hepatotoxicity.
May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives.
Caution: Avoid excessive sun exposure. May cause hypersensitivity in some persons with penicillin allergy, use with caution. May cause birth defects, do not use in pregnancy. Males should wait at least 6 months after therapy before fathering a child. Use with caution in persons with history of liver disease or SLE.
Significant drug interactions: Oral contraceptives, anticoagulants, cyclosporine.

Griseofulvin ultramicrosize demonstrated better oral absorption than griseofulvin microsize, permitting lower doses. There is no evidence that this effects therapeutic outcome. |
