Typical Dosing

 

 Moxifloxacin

Avelox®

Pregnancy: C; Lactation: Unk

 

Tabs: 400 mg

 ≥18 years to Adult: 400 mg PO once daily.

 

Food: May take without regard to food. Must take 4 hours before or 8 hours after sucralfate, antacids, aluminum, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, vitamins, or mineral supplements.

 

Important side effects: Photosensitivity, dizziness, headache, insomnia, rash (may be severe), seizures, superinfection.

 

Do not need to reduce dose in renal disease.

Caution: May prolong QT interval. Avoid use in patient with uncorrected hypokalemia or those taking Class 1A (e.g., procainamide, quinidine) or Class III antiarrhythmic agents.

 

Drug interactions may be significant especially: Cyclosporine, warfarin, theophylline.
