Terbinafine

Pregnancy: B; Lactation: Unsafe

 

Tabs: 250 mg

Cream 1%

Topical Gel 1%

 

Children: Difficult to give to children <20 kg.

<20 kg: 62.5 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks.

20-40 kg: 125 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks.

≥40 kg and Adult: 250 mg PO Q24H

 

Food: May take with or without meals.

 

Important side effects: Ocular changes, rash, neutropenia, hepatobiliary dysfunction,nausea. Advise patient to report any prodromal signs of liver failure (fatigue, weakness, nausea, vomiting, yellowing of eye(s) or skin, dark urine, pale stools).

 

Caution: Liver failure and death have occurred. Baseline LFTs should be obtained, and use of the drug should be avoided in persons with preexisting liver disease.

 

Avoid use in liver or renal (CrCl <50 mL/min) disease.

 

Topical: Apply to affected area once or twice daily until clinical signs and symptoms are significantly improved, a minimum 1 week, but no longer than 4 weeks. Avoid eye(s) and mucous membranes. Avoid occlusive dressings.

 

Important side effects: Irritation, burning.
